Girl, Cub and Boy Scouts Religious Medals

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting has had the responsibility for nearly 70 years to promote and guide cooperative contacts between the authorities of the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts of America in the United States. The Scouting program is recognized as an integral part of the total youth ministry at the diocesan level.

Gail Lavenburg serves as the Boy/Cub Scout Parish Member Representative for Holy Family. She works with Scouts at Holy Family to help them obtain their religious emblems.
For more information on the programs offered at Holy Family, e-mail her at religiousmedals@holyfamily.com or call the parish office at 816-436-9200.

Following are the religious medals that can be obtained through Scouting and the Catholic Church:

Girl Scouts and Camp Fire

The Family of God (7 – 9 yrs old) program is to help children explore a wide range of activities to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish.

The I Live My Faith (9-11 yrs old) program activities focus on developing awareness within the individual of her/his potential as a growing person, a friend, a member of her family, a citizen and a participant in the community of faith.

The Marian Medal (12-14 yrs old) program actively involves the participants in an understanding of Mary as the model of openness and spirituality – a woman of the Church.

The Spirit Alive (15 – 17 yrs old) program will help the youth discover how the Holy Spirit moves within our lives, calling them to a greater participation in the church. During the course of this program, the scripture will be explored in order to better understand God’s Message. The activities in this program will help in developing a stronger prayer life so they can better understand their own mission as disciples of Jesus.

The Parvuli Dei (Bear & Webelos) program is to help young boys explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish, and also to develop a good positive self-image through the contributions they can make to the group or community.

Boy Scouts

The Ad Altare Dei (13 to 14 yrs old) program fosters the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person by encouraging him to actively live out his Catholic Christian faith. The program is organized in chapters based on the Sacraments.

The Pope Pius XII (15 to 16 yrs old) program is to help Catholic Scouts and Venturers more fully develop a Christian way of life within a faith community. They explore the inner self, secular community and church community to fully understand their primary vocation of giving witness to the Gospel of Christ.
